Well a week ago you would just end up having to pay. However recently Nintendo has looked into this and has offered a soultion. So if you do need the free download code you can request one.

Here is what a Nintendo spokesperson to eurogamer has said “Any consumer who may have misplaced their Wii Download Ticket number for the Wii Speak Channel or require a new number following a Wii exchange may contact their local Nintendo Customer Services department, where they can request a replacement Wii Download Ticket number.”
Thats some good news I think

I’m back this week, after being told I’m going to be fired if I don’t do another bad news. I told him I don’t like bringing people down. But who am I kidding, I love it. Ha ha ha. So this week isn’t much, some X-Box news and Some bad business moves. So lets get started.
Here is a bit of info on THQ and the UFC that bothers me a little. There was a fighter that got dropped by the UFC’s Dana White for not signing an agreement to use his likeness and name forever for the upcoming UFC games. He just didn’t want to sign up for ever. The fighter, Jon Fitch, had this to say about it “I’m more than willing to work with them, but I don’t see why we have to give up our whole lives for this. Why not a time limit? If we did a 10-year deal with them, is that that unreasonable? I don’t understand how this happened, honestly. It’s tough”. Isn’t that just a little harsh. I can’t believe that because a guy does not want to be apart of a video game the rest of his life you kick him out of what he loves to do. It wasn’t even just him. Another fighter named Christian Wellisch also got the ax. On a brighter note, Jon Fitch did end up signing the deal, though I do not know about Christian Wellisch. I guess you will do what ever it takes to do what you really want to do. I boo Dana White for his bad reasoning skills. If you want to see the trailer to of game click here.

Moving along with the X-box, just few things with them. As you already know the NXE is doing great. I had a chance to play with it, but there are some problems. Installing the games to the hard drive is a good idea but here is just some games that won’t install. The list is small at the moment, as six games have been found so far. Big Bumpin’, College Hoops 2k7, Pocket Bike, RacersSneak King, Crackdown, and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. The worst one in the list has to be DOAx2.

This NXE piece of news is also X-Box related, but it’s Sony’s doing. You all know that you can watch movies on x-box with Netflix, but there are a lot of movies that you can’t watch on the X-box that are still available in Netflix. Well over a hundred titles, all of which are Columbia Pictures, which is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, are unavailble in the 360’s Netflix area. This is the most retarded thing I have heard. You can still watch those moves on your PC or TV, but just can’t get them throught the X-Box? This little war between Sony and X-box is getting old. I think Sony is now just being selfish. This is one war that really should stop. There can be no gain from petty fighting. If they were kids, I would spank them both and make them apolgize to each other. However, it seems that this is not something that is specifically affecting 360 users. Sony’s official statement is as follows: “This issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform, Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing matters related to the distribution of its motion pictures. Given the ongoing nature of these discussions, we don’t think it is appropriate to comment further at this time.”

But why? Well, when it comes to Guitar Hero, it seems that thatgamingsite.com has the answer. The short and skinny is that Artists want some of their songs to be kept in track packs, and apparently, the Wii can’t support that. Which is a whole bunch of bull, and I can explain why.

First off, it doesn’t seem its an improbability that you could create some sort of proprietary archiving method. Which then, the game could take and extract, separating the files, and allowing you to play each song separately, right? Apparently I’m wrong, or these guys just didn’t think about it. Obviously you’d need some way to “unzip” the archive, and if that isn’t included on the disk, why waste your time with having people download a whole program. Oh, wait, here’s a good reason; ’cause people want these songs, and you’ll make even more on your billions and billions of dollars. Idiots.

I mean, I believe you can already do “zipping”, or at least “unzipping” on the Wii via homebrew. Right? Anyone know for sure? If I’m wrong I stand corrected. And if so, I pray someone out there writes a program just to prove I’m right. But, lets say this sort of thing can’t be done. Just for the sake of argument. Guess since its a hardware limitation, we’re SOL, yeah? No, there’s another work around.

You sell them in packs, but you download each song individually. Duh. God, easiest work around ever. Everyone is still happy. But I guess when it comes to third party developers for the Wii, we’ll always get the ones that can’t think outside of the box. This is whats wrong with the Wii, the developers can’t pull their heads out of their asses.

Yeah, I know I’m being an asshole right now. So sue me. Does anyone disagree? Is this not what they should be doing? Seriously…

This week has been absolutely, mind-boggling, nuts for Poot and I. Between the site design, ideas for what we want to bring to the site (more on that to come!), and keeping up with the news, we’re pretty exhausted. Not to mention, today the site hit a little snag when I posted our special with Robert Pelloni. That was a headache (thank god I’ve learned my lesson and actively keep back-ups now). Well, here’s the weekly headlines from the blogsphere:

KORG DS-10 may not be coming to a store near you. | 1up |
Well this is a cart that can’t even be argued is a game, it’s something that has been much anticipated. Right?

Metal Gear Solid on the 360 | Joystiq |
When Joystiq broke this news, we couldn’t believe it was official, turns out you shouldn’t believe everything you read.

Good news for Wii owners who love Rock Band | IGN |
As stated here before, Rock Band 2 for the Wii might actually keep up for the second race!

The Force is with SoCal | Kotaku |
Now you can download Vader and Yoda for the 360 and PS3, respectively.

Golden Joystick Awards | Kotaku |
You have one week left to vote. So get on it!

I was immediately captured. The simple thought that one guy could take the time and effort to create a full commercial sized game, thats also on par with the production quality, is absolutely amazing. From his YouTube videos, I realized that this game could quite possibly be everything he promised. Once DS Fanboy posted that publishers were looking at Bob’s Game, I delved myself into what this game was all about. You can actually find most of it on Robert’s own site, but once I went through most of it, a few questions had come to mind.First and foremost, with only your YouTube videos and interviews to go off of, will we ever see a playable demo of Bob’s Game, so you can really show off the true potential of your game?

I’m Looking into putting out a demo, right now I’m still in talks with publishers so I’m not sure when I’ll get the chance. I’d like to release a playable demo shortly before the game is available on at least one system to purchase, otherwise I’ll have some frustrated players who like the demo, and aren’t able to buy the full version.

You seem pretty positive that you’re looking at being one of the first games available for DSWare. Now, the service is set to launch November 1st in Japan. Are you actually that close to sealing the deal, where you will be part of that, or is this slated for the American premier of the service?

I was referring to the timing of the North American and European releases. Nothing is official yet, of course, but I’m pushing as hard as I can to get it out in the first batch of downloadable titles, it’s very exciting news and the timing is perfect! Since I’m just now talking to publishers, it’s the ideal time to be able to work this out in the deal (along with normal carts). I’d like to do something special for the DSi release, including support for the cameras and maybe even have something like downloadable content. The DSi version would be a lot cheaper, so I might package the overall game differently or have to cut some things out- especially if the file size has to be smaller, I’m not sure.
I’m pretty sure I won’t make the Japanese release, but I would like to mention that I’m definitely pushing for a release in as many languages as I can.
I’ve been picked up by a few Japanese gaming sites, and there was even a thread going on the famous 2chan for awhile about it.
It just so happens that my older brother (the NES gamer) does professional Japanese translation for a living nowadays, and he’s agreed to translate to Japanese along with the help of some native speakers that he works with. He knows first-hand target=”_blank” how hard I worked on it, so he’s giving it the extra attention to make sure it’s a very high quality translation.
It’s important to me that everyone who wants to play it gets a chance to, so even if I have to hire a translation firm myself for some languages and release a patch online I would be willing to do that.

If the game is released for the DSWare service, will there be any differences between the downloaded version and the actual physical copy of the game?

I’m not sure about this yet, I don’t know any more details about the service than anyone else. I’d like to add some DSi specific features, but I’m definitely going to make sure the retail title is worth having. I might end up releasing a DSWare version for very cheap or free that is a demo of the first half, and transfer the save file over the retail version, if that sort of thing ends up being possible. One thing is for sure, I’m definitely excited to be able to think up new ideas for this!

I’ve read that you learned C++ in highschool, and the game is coded in such. Would you suggest that those who want to make their own game to just gear up and work on it, even without a formal education?

The game is actually written in C, which is a bit different. C++ is a superset of C, and the way you do a lot of things is entirely different. PHP is also a sort of superset of C, the syntax is very similar but when it comes down to it it’s pretty different.
When I started five years ago, there weren’t nearly as many video game specific schools or courses available, so it made a little bit more sense to “go it alone”, but can I really recommend that people skip school and learn on their own? Maybe not the wisest advice, so I really can’t say.
I’m a pretty clever guy and I trust my own judgment, so I don’t know if what works for me will work for everyone else- though it might! I do know that all the guys that invented the language did it from scratch, and all the original game programmers had to do things from scratch as well, so I made it a point to do it the “old school” way and “reinvent the wheel.”
Nowadays the technology is much different, most companies don’t write things from scratch at all. Most of the game industry works with software packages called middleware, which are pre-built packages containing things like graphics engines or collision detection and physics. There’s some really amazing people that specialize in a single aspect of game design- for instance John Carmack and his Doom engine, or the Havok team and their physics engine. They’ve dedicated their entire career to that one piece of the puzzle, and it’s near impossible to beat them at their own game, so to speak. Most companies simply license these technologies and hire a team of artists, or contract an outside firm to do the graphics and modeling assets, so if someone goes through a formal program to learn game design they’ll probably be learning how to use one of these technologies.
I’ve actually read some interviews with developers that are frustrated with this- they’ll hire someone out of a development school but they don’t know how to adapt to new technologies if the company doesn’t use exactly what they’ve been taught.
It’s really up to the individual and what their personal goals are. I’ve always felt that to some extent there’s no reason why someone can’t teach themselves exactly what they would learn in school- we’ve got the internet at our hands and information is available in ways that didn’t exist ten years ago.
You obviously feel that your game is on a level where you can give it a proper release, and it definitely seems so, but with that are there fears of piracy, especially considering how rampant it is on the DS?

Honestly, I’m not that concerned about it. If someone honestly can’t afford to buy “Bob’s Game,” but wants to play it so badly they’re willing to break the law to get it, I’m sure they’re going to want to buy a legit copy when they can afford it, and they’ll probably become a fan and buy my next game. Then there’s the “collector” type of person, who is just going to pirate it for the sake of having a complete collection. They probably won’t even play it, so there’s no loss there. I’m sure there are people who can afford to buy it, but don’t want to bother going to the store, or they’re the type of person who plays so many games they would go broke buying them all. I think that type of person is going to be technically inclined, and that’s the sort of person who would probably appreciate the effort put into “bob’s game” the most, and they might send me a donation or the like. Of course, I’ll need to at least sell enough copies to be able to make another game, so I hope people will buy it if they can.

Could you give us an estimate on how much you think your game will cost, or in the very least what you’d like it to be priced at?

I’d honestly like for it to be a budget title, even though the size and quality of the game are up there with some of the high-budget premium titles. It’s more important to me that everyone who wants to play it gets a chance, especially kids who might have a hard time saving up money. I just hope that people don’t overlook the game on the shelves because it’s not priced as high as the latest big-budget titles, but I think people who recognize it will definitely appreciate the gesture.

Last, but not least, can we be expecting anything new from you in the future, either on your own, or with a team, or was this simply the game of your dreams, and you’d like to keep it at that, and will they continue to be for the DS or other platforms as well?

I’m definitely going to keep making games. I’m putting together a small studio with some talented friends, and I’ve already got the basic outline for the next title, which is very different from “bob’s game.” During these past five years I filled several notebooks with ideas and concepts for other games, and I selected my favorite idea from those. I think it’s going to be very cool, it’s something very experimental. I’m aiming for a downloadable title for WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, or the PS3 Marketplace, though who knows- it might end up filling a whole DVD.

——————————————————————————–

And there you have it. For us here at CGB, it’s something we’re looking forward to, with anticipation. Both Poot and I have to agree that the DS is one of our most favorite systems, and the news that what may possibly be the greatest Homebrew game is definitely well recieved by us. A huge thanks to Robert Palloni for answering our questions, he really seems like a great guy. Nintendo announced the DSi at their Fall press conference, and many sites have been following the news of the DSi. Here’s what we know about Nintendo’s biggest show stopper for sure.

Nintendo is coming out with their new money maker in Japan on November 1st, with a price tag of 189,000 yen (about 180$USD) it is going to hit the us next year, “Well into 2009″.
The worst thing about the new iteration is the fact that they removed the GBA slot, which makes the few DS games that utilize the slot such as Guitar Hero On Tour, and Arkanoid, useless. Being a fan of Guitar Hero On Tour, I’m a little upset, and I’ll most likely keep my DS Lite. However, some publishers such as Activision (who makes the Guitar Hero series) are all for this change. Sure it won’t be backwards compatible, but it may end up like the Wii in the fact that they may release GBA games in the DSi download service. That may not be true, though it would make sense for Nintendo to do so.

The dsi has many new features. The most notable is the two 0.3 megapixel cameras. One on the top, the other on the inside hinge. Its also slimmer than the DS lite by about 12%. the screen is bigger too, by .25 inches. the DSi has on board memory (not yet said how much)as well as an SD slot. The DSi will also come with an internet browser, not officially stated as Opera, but we’re betting it will be, and music player on it, which will most likely support the AAC format. The new DSi ware will be much like WiiWare, where you will be able to download games and who knows what else. The prices of the downloads will be free, 200 points, 500, or 800. The points, called Nintendo Points, which is what the Wii Points will now also be called, won’t be transferable from DSi to Wii. What that means is that if you buy 2000 points, and you use 500 of those points to buy a DS game, you will have to use the other 1500 points on other DS downloads. It makes it pointless to call them Nintendo Points, but I have a feeling that will change eventually.

I am not yet sure if this new DS will be worthwhile, but I am hopeful. I’ll be keeping track of this and I’ll post my discoveries as they come.

I could not wait for me to work on the blog design to post this…

It seems there is a rumor about which says that there will be 20 free downloadable tracks coming to Rock Band. Its not clear if it will be available for RB2 or the current running. Either way, I must say that there is some legitimacy to this, because my favorite band is included in this list. And at the Harvey Danger bulletin board, one of the band members stated that a song would be coming. After some teasing, he said that they didn’t make the cut into the included song list, but that it would be available for download at some time, though Harmonix didn’t say when. However, he did say the song would be from their latest album, Little by Little, which I talked about a little here. That song is Cream and Bastards Rise.

Below is the full track list:

1. Honest Bob – Tatooine
2. Against Me! – Stop!
3. Static-X – Push It
4. George Thorogood – Bad to the Bone
5. Blink 182 – Dammit
6. Free – All Right Now
7. Dead Kennedys – Holiday in Cambodia
8. Hot Hot Heat – Bandages
9. Bad Religion – Suffer
10. Turbonegro – All My Friends Are Dead
11. The Haunted – Shadow World
12. Pennywise – The Western World
13. Rancid – Fall Back Down
14. Sublime – Santeria
15. Taking Back Sunday – What’s It Feel Like To Be A Ghost
This is definitely the sleeper hit of DC. Even though I am completely broke, and had only 1000 wii points left on my console, despite that, I probably would have purchased the game over Square-Enix’s Crystal Chronicles – My Life as King. It looked like a game that had so much promise. Intrigued, I spent the last of my money dedicated to games for the next few months on a game that I really hadn’t heard much of. In the end, what finally made me decide, was the Nintendo Channel’s little video preview of it.
The basic premise of the game is that you are a wind spirit who has been trapped inside of a stone with an evil being. The evil has escaped, and left your powerless. However, you also play as Toku, a boy who just happens to be taking a nap near the wind spirit’s remnants, as he’s searching for help. The two team up, and you control Toku with the nunchuk, moving him left and right across the screen, and using the Z button to use various actions for puzzles or refilling health. With the Wiimote, however, you control Enril, the wind spirit, and hold down B or A for various actions. You can also quickly swipe the Enril cursor across the screen for various effects on the background scenery.
Graphically, the game is beautiful, especially for a Wii game. To be honest, the graphics in this game are far pushing what even I believed was possible for the little console that could. The effect are beautiful too, nothing was sparred in graphics for this game, and makes it that much more enjoyable. It seems that it is true that there is potential yet to be seen in the big N’s little machine.

The controls are easy to fall into, and while you may be waving your hand back and forth for a few hours, you never seem to get tired. At least I didn’t, so it wasn’t like I needed a break to regain composure for my arm. Simple, and intuitive, I only got hung up while using Toku’s gliding function, and was guiding him into the bottom of a ledge, instead of on top of it.
Musically, everything is pretty somber, it gives you a nice relaxed feeling, and picks up to just the right amount of urgency in sound when enemies are close by. Characters and enemies sound like they should, though there is no audio track for dialogue. Also, being able to control the wind, and being able to hear it flow though the scenery through plants, and sometimes startling people, makes you really feel like you’re in control of the wind.
As for game play, it all goes very smoothly. You rarely get tripped up when controlling either character, but it seemed at first when enemies appeared that there was no way to destroy them. There isn’t an obvious shot them sort of thing. Once I realized (and still in my first encounter), that you can throw enemies with Enril, then throwing them into the ground was the way to go. Later enemies appear that you may need to use an enhancement of your powers for, but they all turn into varying amounts of the same basic enemy. Which gave it that tone that evil is infecting the world.
The games only boss was a small trick to me, because there was an specific type of enemy that I never really defeated. When I thought I did, I guess I only made it dormant, allowing for me to destroy it completely. I was hung up for a few, until I realized that I was stupid. And in the end, well… no spoilers. But despite having only a single boss, and only 3 hours of game play (thats even with me messing around, experimenting with stuff…), it seems like a really whole game. Especially for $10. There’s also a side quest in collecting little artifacts. I’m missing one, so I have no clue what the award is, but I’m hoping it’s worth completing.
If you have 1000 Wii points, or $10 sitting in your bank account, go and get this game. You probably won’t be disappointed. It wasn’t advertised much, but I can already see alot of buzz circulating about this game. Its a great action game to anyone’s library. Don’t miss out.
