Apocalyps3 Now!!!

The end of the world has been debated to be forthcoming for some time now, and with the recent earthquakes, end time heralders (what!? it could and should be a word) have been exclaiming loudly that the end is just around the corner.  Yesterday, we had another confirmation of the end, as PS3s around the world issued a 8001050F error that rendered the PlayStation Network useless, as well as many single player games.

While all slim line PS3s don’t appear to be effected, having a phat PS3 doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll be left out in the dust. Although, if you have a launch system, it seems that you’ll be waiting till sometime later today or tomorrow to play your games. Sony has stated that they know of and are working on the problem, and they will be releasing updates as they come via twitter.

While initially people were stating that the issue would cause you to send your PS3 in for repair (and pay the $150 fee), it quickly turned into a network server error. With the US Playstation site undergoing changes, and the official forums having maintenced preformed on them, it appeared people were right, and once Sony fixed the server, everyone would be happy again. But then the reports of seemingly random PS3 phats working, and all PS3 slims working, pointed to hardware problem.

Then ideas of a y2kesqe bug started flowing around, and Kotaku even reminded everyone about the Zune’s leap year bug, and everyone who received the error started noticing the time change on their system. Apparently, you’ve avoided the apocalyps3 by being transported back to January 1st, 2000, and now you’re in a weird Donnie Darko situation. Now the fate of the Universe rests in your hands.
