Chinatown Wars has received some of the best reviews for the DS, and we make no exception. This is simply one of the best DS games you could ever buy. You don’t even need to be a fan of the series, but if you are; whether new or old, this game has something for you. Obviously it is catered to a mature audience, but only if you can take not so mature dialoge in your story. Here’s my simple and quick take on everything this game offers to anyone who has a DS.
The story is the first thing that really sets this game apart from any other GTA. While it follows the same basic points of the others, there is something special about the character interactions and the way the story is told. the smart ass of Haung never ceases, and it seems to be that smart ass rich boy sense that makes it so believeable. With the multitude of characters that you meet, they will all have their own special thing about them. Some you will love to hate, some you wish would just shut up, and others you wish would shut up about their transvestite hobbies. Buh. In the end, the story really supports who each of these characters are, and every bit of dialogue that’s cheesy is totally fitting to each character.
The graphics are actually astounding in this game. The isometric view takes GTA back to its roots in terms of visuals, but the transition is very welcome. The colors are vibrant, and nothing ever really seems out of place. And they fit so much into this game, its really amazing.
In the end, though, its the actual gameplay that makes the game. You have mini-games galore, and none of them really get old. You sometimes hot-wire a car, sometimes you just have to stick a screwdriver in and twist it around a bit, to get your GTA on. There is one mini game that really has such a large scope that it’s more like they put a whole new game, into this one. And really they did. If you’re familiar with drug wars, and love that game, you have an even better reason to get this game. It’s a quick and not always easy way to get some cash, yet it remains fun every step of the way.
All in all, I can suggest that everyone should try this game at least once. You probably won’t regret it.
