Guitar Hero III Review

In 2005, we were greeted with another music game, and much like DDR, Guitar Hero for the PS2 swept the nation. Many people fell in love with this game; the great song list, the crazy patterns and the ease of play on the five button guitar. Then, Harmonix came out with Guitar Hero 2. More songs to try and master, new multiplayer modes, like pro face off and co-op that allowed you to play bass and rhythm, and improved on the hammer-ons. Then Xbox got on board with GH2, which had a few extra songs than it’s PS2 counterpart, and also allowed new songs to be downloaded. After many PS2 fans got angry, Harmonix said, okay, we’ll give the PS2 a new game… Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80’s came out, and provided new songs, but beyond that was the same old. In fact, they even took things like guitars and characters away, and in the end, was not worth the 50 dollars it cost to buy.
Now, 2 years after the first Guitar Hero, the third installment hits the shelf with over 70 awesome songs for all the current running consoles out; PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, and, Wii. The stages are still fun to watch when your not playing, of course, and the game runs so smooth, it really looks good. The game has many unlockables and online play, which lets you battle other people and download new songs (not available for the Wii, though Activision has said they’re working on adding that feature). Many new modes where put in like co-op career and the aforementioned battle mode. The new battle mode is a great, and definitely a must for the new Guitar Hero. Though, nothing will start a fight faster than making your opponent break a string. The only problem I have with the battle is when playing a friend a song does not last long at all, and can end up being a bummer for the both of you. The career mode has a little story that makes it a little funner to go through, and the co-op career has some songs and a couple new stages that you can only get by playing co-op.
The makers really wanted to test your skills and see if you are a real Guitar Hero this time around. A few times you have to battle real guitar legends, like Slash, and the battles are really hard. I don’t think they miss a single note. You have to play your best to beat any boss battle, and the last battle is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Lou is the evilest and most brutal battle imaginable. Lou, aka Satan, will test your true skills, and I can’t count how many times I have said “He got my soul again, that #@*^$!*# )@*$!”. This game has patterns that make you wish you had 20 red bulls to be able to do. You might even say “How in the name of Odin am I going to beat this?”, especially since guitarists say that is game is harder than real guitar.
Over all, if you call your self a Guitar Hero, this game will up your skill and challenge you, can you say Dragon Force? Into the Fire and Flames is the new Jordan. The song is about 7:30 min long and almost all solo. I can’t seem get more than 2% into the song. At least they’re nice and let you play without failing, but only if you can beat the devil. So… not that nice. Over all, I give this game a 8.5 and want to know when is guitar hero 4 going to grace us.
